Great Italian Cooking. LA Grande Cucina Internazionale.

Great! THE essential Italian cookbook. You really want it!
My mother bought this book in 1970. She is a great cook and she always considered it one of the best Italian cookbooks ever. I've read it from front to back, trying many of the recipees. It has very clear explanations. and a large ammount of wonderful recipees. I consider it it by far the best classic Italian cookbook ever. Especially interesting is the section on Sauces. It covers more Italian sauces than I ever knew existed! If you love Italian food you really want this book in your collection.

THE essential Italian cookbook
I found this book in a used bookstore near Traverse City, Michigan. In skimming the contents, I was floored by the comprehensive use of ingredients and the clear, simple instructions. Since I am not fluent in Italian, the bi-lingual titles have given me the Italian for eel, frog, rabbit among others. The preface explains why "songbirds" have been eliminated from the list of delicasies. I came to Amazon to find more about Carnacina since he was a student of the "father" of modern cooking, Escoffier.

From The Corner Of His Eye
I found this book quite good. I read it in about three days and didn't really want it to end. Like most of Dean Koontzs' books, I found it quite believable. What I mean about that is these things could happen, they might be far fetched but his plot lines are feasable.

Never before has a booked shocked me the way this one has. Right off the bat, characters that you liked either were not what they appeared of were killed, with absoultly no warning. I have to say, I like a story that has the ability to shock me.

I recommend this book to anyone who is a Dean Koontz fan, and even if your not. It is not filled with Mr. Koontz anger about how human society is falling apart and blaming thier mothers, fathers, and the cereal they ate for breakfast on their present day problems, but instead focused on hope, family, and overcoming great lose. But, at the same time, it is thrilling, full of suspense and horror.

I don't know what else to say about this book, except read it and then read it again. I'll guarantee that you will enjoy it, that it will shock you and cause you to lose sleep, because you won't be able to put it down. Curiousity will keep those pages turning.

This survey of hispanic folk music of the Rio Grande may be regionally specific, but it will prove essential to any student of Hispanic music and provides a wide-ranging history which examines the religious music from 16th-century Spain, Mexican folk tunes, and melodies which are native to the Rio Grande region. Songs appear in Spanish and English and the book includes excellent black and white photos and historical notes.

A cookbook that tells a story or two
I've always felt that every recipe has a story behind it, some ditty that brings the history of the recipe and its origin to light. When I reviewed "La Comida:...." I was pleased to see not only informative vignettes but also the legends of the Upper Rio Grande area. There's even a section on Utinsels and how they were/are used by the peoples of that region. What also amazed me was the bibliography. Now you tell me, how often do you find a cookbook with a bibliography? Not often that's for sure. If you're like me and have a huge craving for the wonderful flavors of the American Southwest then you'll love to have "La Comida:..." in your colletion. Bob Wiseman Author, Reviewer, Historian

The best
The book is well rounded with great suggestions, stories and tips.
Fred just knows how to make things work, simple and fresh.
All it says to me is GAME ON!

The flavor and history of the Upper Rio Grande
When I feel nostolgic about Taos, and wish I were there, I pull out my copy of La Comida and read a few chapters. Brings me back to the warmth and feel of the country. Only wish Fred had included his recipe for Macaroni, cheese and chiles, and the squash stew

LA Grande Armee
Published in Hardcover by Arms & Armour (December, 1995)
Authors: Georges Blond, Marshall May, George Bond, and George Blond
Average review score:

Good
I found this book very provocative. The anecdotal comments throughout the book, personal accounts on each campaign and method which the author introduces character sketches as the applicable historical figures come into context were refreshing and enlightening. Despite references to Maps in the appendixes of the book, I found the author's description of tactics and battle movements to be somewhat confusing at times. I was a little disappointed with the amount of attention given to the last years of Napoleon the 1st's reign. All in all, a good, enjoyable read. DPS

A superb tour de force
Blonde has written a superb tour de force in a style which makes one think you are reading a novel and transports you to the battlefields of the Napoleonic Wars. One learns a plenty of the lot of the common soldier and meets characters such as Murat, Ney and other lesser knowns. All in all a brilliant history without the boring prose of some better known history books!

An outstanding narrative of the Napoleonic era.
Georges Blond takes the reader with Napoleon and his men as they march from Boulogne to Waterloo with a completeness that one would expect from an autobiography. The book describes the day-to-day life and death in the army of the Emperor with all the detail of a conversation with a grizzled veteran at a Parisian café. Mr. Blond provides character sketches of some of the leading historical figures of the time that illustrate motive, desire and fault. His descriptions of the Peninsular War and the retreat from Moscow vividly illustrate the suffering and horrors of war in the Napoleonic era. The author's in depth treatment of the medical services is most enlightening, describing the frightful lot of the wounded in gory detail. The reader cannot avoid having an increased respect for the physicians Rene Desgenettes and Jean Larrey. Touching on the political, personal and military histories of the period, the book provides the reader with a unique vantage point from which they may view battles like Austerlitz and Waterloo in a new light. The descriptions of the campaigns and battles avoid tactical details while providing sweeping descriptions that answer many of the how's and why's of the conflicts events. With the chronology, maps and statistics included in the appendixes, this book will become a valued addition to the library of any student of the Napoleonic era.

Los Funerales De LA Mama Grande
Published in Paperback by Ediciones Alfaguara, S.A. (June, 1984)
Author: Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Average review score:

Gabo is amazing!
Que la mama grande sea la dueña de los colores de la bandera habla de la elocuencia de Garcia Marquez. No se pierdan esta genial historia.

A classic of Latin American literature
If you like Gabriel Garcia Marquez... you will love this collection of stories. They are a must read for lovers of magical realism. These stories are the type you can smell and taste. This is the original stuff before everyone started doing it (Isabel Allende for example) and nobody has done it better or will do it better. Nobel Price winner GGM is the most important writer alive and arguably the most important writer of the 20th century...
